Stunning Sunrise Washington D.C. Tidal Basin Engagement Photos | Georgetown Engagement Session | Destination Charleston Wedding | Annie and Luke

As a destination wedding photographer, my job often takes me to beautiful places with incredible people. My time spent with Luke and Annie was certainly one for the books, and culminated in an epic, early morning sunrise engagement session in Washington D.C. this spring! I had the pleasure of flying up to D.C. for a weekend to shoot their engagement session at some of my absolute favorite locations around town. We started our session as the sun rose over the Potomac at the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, and somehow, there was hardly another soul in sight! If you’ve ever photographed in Washington D.C.’s National Mall area, then you know that even at sunrise, it can be crowded with other parties taking photographs, so to have it all to ourselves was truly so rare and special, and made for the perfect backdrop for their engagement portraits! After the sun rose over the National Mall, we headed over to Georgetown’s historic cobblestone streets, where we were greeted with spring blooms, empty streets, and some of the prettiest morning light that we could’ve asked for.

When Annie initially reached out to me, we instantly connected over the fact that we are both graduates of Virginia Tech and our love for the look of film photography on wedding days. Annie and Luke’s love story revolves in and around Northern Virginia, so it absolutely made sense to shoot their engagement portraits in a place that is so special to them both. Annie and Luke met nearly five years ago through mutual friends in D.C., but immediately discovered that they actually grew up about a mile away from each other in Virginia and somehow never crossed paths until recently! Luke proposed to Annie last year at the massive Christmas Tree at the Washington Monument, so it was so fitting for us to get the Washington Monument as part of their engagement imagery!

I cannot wait for their wedding later this year at the beautiful Patriots Point Links Club in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina! It is one of my favorite views of Charleston from this venue – you get all of Charleston’s Harbour and the Ravenel Bridge in the background as the sun sets over the city!
