To say I was tickled pink to get to photograph Tara & Griffin’s Washington D.C. engagement was an understatement! I had the delightful opportunity to meet and work with Tara a few years ago for her Virginia Tech graduation portrait session, so when she reached out to me about her and Griffin’s Merrimon-Wynne wedding next year, I knew it would be one for the books! Tara and Griffin met at Virginia Tech during undergrad, after having met at a party and then ‘studying’ for a whole afternoon chatting away at Deet’s Coffee Shop on campus. Now they’re both based in the Washington, DC area, so it made sense that we would do their engagement session in their ‘backyard’, too!
When we first chatted about their wedding day vision, they had discussed really wanting a wedding that both captured a traditional garden party affair, but also captured the candid, fun energy of the happy couple and their guests. I loved this so much, as it really aligns to how I like to photograph weddings – a perfect mix of capturing and documenting your traditional, posed moments, while also capturing plenty of candid, fun moments, too!
Tara & Griffin braved the early morning cold (and at 7 AM no less!) so that we could nab the Lincoln Memorial, National Mall, and DC War Memorial while avoiding the traditional crowds of our national monuments. Our early morning sunrise session did not disappoint, and we truly had an empty (!!!) National Mall all to ourselves to capture their stunning engagement photos. Check out a few of my favorites from our District engagement session!
