Kaylin and Justin’s springtime Charleston engagement session was filled with so many laughs, heavenly floral blooms, and set amongst the historic homes of downtown Charleston and Rainbow Row! These two brought so much joy and ease to their engagement session in Charleston, and I cannot wait to be their wedding photographer later this year at the beautiful Pawley’s Plantation in Pawley’s Island, South Carolina!
At the start of each relationship we have with our wedding photography clients, I love to hear each of their love stories – what brought them together, the life experiences they’ve had together, and what they are most excited about in the months and years to come as husband and wife. Each love story is unique, and as a professional photographer specializing in weddings and couples, it is my job to ensure that each and every frame, film image, and gallery helps to tell the story of that couple, their friends and family, and their special day. As a fine art wedding photographer, my editing style can be described as clean, rich, and timeless, which is consistent with the tone of film that we use on wedding days. At SNP, we are ‘hybrid’ wedding photographers, meaning that we work in both digital and film mediums. Film is one of our favorite things to work with – it demands intentional image composure and careful consideration of each pose and image captured. We believe that film not only has an heirloom quality to it, but the coloring and tones in film stock will age well in the decades to come. On wedding days, we are constantly looking for the important moments that will naturally unfold between partners, family members, and friends in attendance of your celebration. Not only do we document all the beautiful, fine art details and beautiful, classic wedding portraits of your wedding day, but we are also always looking to document candid moments that naturally happen. It is this balance in a gallery that helps to perfectly tell the story of your wedding day and to feel through the wedding images exactly how it happened.
We began our time together for Kaylin and Justin’s Charleston engagement portraits at the perfect location to start: Charleston’s French Quarter, filled with lots of historic charm, tons of natural light, and the perfect background for their South Carolina romance to be captured on film. When my couples are searching for the perfect backdrops for their engagement photos, I am always on the lookout for new, unique locations as their engagement photographer. Charleston’s historic streets, such as Church Street, Tradd Street, and Saint Michael’s Alley, make for the perfect place in the Historic District to compose timeless images of my couples. I am always finding new hidden corners of this beautiful city to use as backdrops for engagement photography locations and photo shoots, and this is a list of locations I am planning on sharing in a future blog post!
When we were in the historic French Quarter of Charleston, we stumbled upon the most beautiful scenes of blooms and fresh spring florals. Confederate Jasmine was in full peak bloom for their Charleston engagement photos, as was the iconic ‘Charleston Flower Gate’ on Church Street (an annual favorite of mine to photograph on film!). After our time on the main peninsula, we drove through Mount Pleasant and over to Daniel Island’s Waterfront Park for their second location. The DI Waterfront Park is a great spot for engagement photo sessions, and is hardly ever busy! We watched the sun slowly set over the Charleston Harbor while walking along the docks by the water, and my gosh, these were some of my favorite moments of their engagement session! You could really feel their sweet love, the beauty of the relationship they share together, and the easy joy effusing from them throughout this portrait session.
I can’t wait for their springtime South Carolina wedding later this year, as well as for Kaylin’s bridal portraits in Charleston this spring!
