Katie and Bryan’s Wild Dunes Wedding was the perfect destination wedding, filled with epic oceanfront views, a subtle boho vibe, and the sweetest love between these two! When planning a destination wedding in Charleston, SC, we can’t recommend enough incorporating Charleston’s beautiful coastline into your day. Wild Dunes Resort, with its beautiful beaches and direct ocean access, is one of our favorite waterfront venues as Charleston wedding photographers!
Charleston Wedding Venues
When searching for a Charleston wedding venue, it’s important to consider items like its location, ambiance, natural surroundings, and amenities for you and your guests. Wild Dunes Resort features so many convenient features for all your wedding needs. We personally love how close the beach is to all of their wedding venues on site. Their croquet lawns are nestled amongst the palm trees, and their Boardwalk Inn and Sweetgrass Inn for guest accommodations are close by. When our couples choose to have a Wild Dunes wedding, they have the ability to house their guests on site, host welcome and rehearsal dinners, plan fun excursions using the amenities the resort offers, and throw a stunning oceanfront wedding, too! This island resort has everything you need for a wedding, whether you’re hosting intimate gatherings, or a 300-person ballroom wedding reception. Wild Dunes furnishes its weddings with an on-site catering team, multiple venues, and a huge assortment of beautiful backdrops for wedding portraits throughout the property.
Located just outside of Charleston, this Island of Palms, nicknamed ‘Charleston’s Island Resort’, is a local mainstay will wow your wedding guests with a perfect wedding backdrop alongside the ocean. Isle of Palms is one of Charleston’s most popular beaches, and the Isle of Palms beach is just mere steps away from the front gates of Wild Dunes Resort. As a Charleston wedding photographer, I love the soft sunset lighting that this wedding venue offers, and that there is such a beautiful view of the water for all of my couple’s portraits throughout their wedding day. I personally love taking my couples to the Boardwalk Inn for a colorful backdrop for portraits, the Croquet Lawn for a hint of greenery and lush tropical trees, and the pristine Isle beaches for walks along the water just as the sun is about to set.
A Wild Dunes Wedding
Katie and Bryan’s wedding day, planned by the team at Direct My Day, was the perfect fall day for a Charleston wedding. Sunny and a balmy 75 degrees, there was no shortage of good lighting, beautiful backdrops, and poignant moments throughout their destination wedding weekend. We began our wedding day with the couple at their private villas they had rented for them and their families to get ready in. I love that Wild Dunes offers couples the chance to house all their guests locally on site, so there’s no need for guest transportation all over town. Katie and Bryan chose a subtle, elevated boho theme for their wedding design, color scheme, and florals. Hints of whites, tans, and rose were sprinkled throughout their wedding design and their wedding party attire, and this paired perfectly with the waterfront and palm tree backdrops we used for their first look and portraits.
Katie and Bryan chose the Sweetgrass Inn’s Indigo Room & Rooftop Lounge for their wedding ceremony and reception. The Sweetgrass Inn’s rooftop area truly has that wow factor for a Wild Dunes wedding. Using the outdoor rooftop for the ceremony, you can have perfect ocean views at sunset as you say your vows in front of your favorite people. Steps away from the rooftop, the Indigo Room features floor to ceiling windows with views of the ocean and Charleston’s marshlands, tall ceilings, and seating for 200 of your favorite people. Continuing to carry the bohemian theme into their wedding reception, guests were seated at tables featuring gorgeous floral design from boutique floral design company Flora, who designed using rose-colored buds, pampas grass, large palm fronts, and white orchids that filled dozens of bud vases and compotes.
Charleston Wedding Reception
Katie and Bryan danced the night away with their guests on the dance floor, with a live band performance by the always delightful Emerald Empire Band. One of my favorite moments of their wedding day was their grand exit from their Wild Dunes wedding. Their band led a ‘First Line’ out of the Sweetgrass Inn and down the Grand Pavilion to their afterparty with their guests! Cheers to the newlyweds, and a huge thank you to an incredible Charleston wedding vendor team that helped pull off this beautiful Wild Dunes wedding!
