We recently had the opportunity to work with Denver locals Molly and Will for their autumn Denver Engagement photos, and that beautiful fall light and mountain sunset certainly did not disappoint! From city backdrops to Rocky Mountain landscapes, this Denver engagement photos session had it all! Keep reading for our recommendations as Denver wedding photographers for the best locations, optimal times, and essential tips for creating timeless and magical engagement photos in the Mile High City.
Denver Photography Locations
As a Denver wedding photographer, when we work with couples for their Denver engagement photos, we always begin things off with a questionnaire that helps us not only get to know the couple, and determine key locations in the region that would compliment them best. There are lots of factors that determine what the best Denver photography locations for engagement photos are! Some key attributes include elements such as lighting, time of day, time of year, types and colors of surrounding foliage, and types of architecture or key landscape elements.
When working with Colorado couples for their Denver engagement photos, we always suggest using two predominant locations, time permitting! This allows for us to get two distinct backgrounds, and gives you variety of photos in the final gallery. Because of Denver’s proximity to the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains, we almost always suggest doing one location in the city or with key architectural elements, and one location with the mountains as the backdrop.
Not sure which Denver photography locations you’d like for your Denver engagement photos? Not to worry, we are always here to help! As part of our engagement photography experience, we always work with our couples to determine locations, all key logistics, rain plans, and outfit styling. Picking locations that suit our couples, their outfits, and their overall engagement photos vision is so much fun, and allows us to lend our expertise to the session.
Best Time to Take Denver Engagement Photos
Colorado is known as ‘colorful Colorado’ for good reason! The state boasts year-round gorgeous landscapes that change with each season, and offer something different each time. Some of our clients opt for a snow-filled winter engagement session, while others prefer to wait until early summer to catch the green grasses, Aspen trees, and bountiful botanicals. Depending on the year’s snow and rainfall, mid to late summer can bring a visually incredible wildflower season, too. Wildflower season is hard to predict in its exact timing, but always creates the most stunning of natural backdrops for Denver engagement photos. Autumn continues to be a fan favorite time and again for both myself and clients. The crisp weather is often comfortable in temperature and quite sunny, as well as the landscape filled with fall foliage and colors.
Denver Engagement Photos
For Molly and Will’s Colorado engagement photos, we utilized two of my favorite locales in and around the city as the backdrop to their images. We started our time together at the stunning Byron White Federal Courthouse. Byron White Courthouse continues to be a favorite Denver photography location of mine time and time again. It offers beautiful, neoclassical architecture that creates a clean, modern backdrop for more formal portraits. Its stunning exterior features white marble throughout, tall columns, arched windows, and a sweeping front staircase. Molly and Will opted for the more formal of their two outfits at this location, complimenting one another in a combination of tans, camels, and blue against the white building background.
We then chased the sunset and headed up to Boulder to the iconic Chautauqua Park for their second and final location of the day. Jeans, sweaters, and complimentary flannels made their appearance to match the cozy, autumnal background of Chautauqua’s primary field. Framed by the gorgeous Flatirons, their Denver engagement photos were completed with a picturesque finish, complete with the sun kissing the very tops of the mountains as it set.
Enjoy just a few of our favorite frames of film from this gorgeous afternoon spent documenting Will and Molly’s Denver engagement photos!
