Boulder Colorado Engagement Session

Time and time again, we love heading up to Boulder, Colorado for our client’s engagement photos and proposals! This stunning little city tucked right next to the Front Range creates the perfect backdrop for your photography experience. Just 20 minutes northwest of Denver, the city of Boulder continues to have some of our favorite engagement photo locations for Colorado couples. Our favorite spots are numerous, but just to name a few, we love Lost Gulch Overlook, South Boulder Creek, South Mesa Trail, Chautauqua Park, and downtown Boulder! One of the benefits of getting your Colorado engagement photos done in Boulder is that the city is small enough where you can easily have multiple locations and beautiful backdrops within your allotted session time. Whether you desire a mountain view of the Rocky Mountains, the bustling city commotion of Pearl Street Mall, or even cool rock formations to climb on during your session, Boulder has it all. To top it off, there are endless spots around town that offer incredible views for amazing photos for your Boulder engagement photos.

Colorado Engagement Photos Locations

As a Colorado wedding photographer, we always reccomend an emgagent photo experience before your wedding day! This is an easy, relaxed introduction to being in front of our cameras, and allows us to get to know one another in a stress-free, fun environment! We love taking advatange of the beautiful natural surroundings in our home state of Colorado for your engagement photo experience, but we also travel globally for our clients, too!

We highly recommend taking advantage of the great weather and lighting during the months of late May though early October for your Boulder engagement photos. This is the perfect time of the year to capture your love story, especially in the summer months when the tall grasses are at their greenest, and the wildflowers are in bloom in select locations. We will always help you choose locations for your Boulder engagement photos, too! As a Colorado engagement photographer, we have some great spots available to our clients that offer easy access and accompanying parking lots, minimal hiking or rock climbing, and plenty of scenery of the surrounding areas. The early fall season in October also offers some beautiful fall colors and foliage, which makes it an equally popular time of the year to get engagement photos done.

Much of Boulder Country requires a photography permit to take photos on the various open spacces and properties around town. These permits are something we obtain annually so we can continue to bring our sweet clients to beautiful locations legally. Whether you’re looking for photos at higher elevations, in the tall grassy meadows of the valley, or on a body of water such as Brainard Lake or Walden Ponds, Boulder County offers it all!

Nancy Meyers Meet-Cute

Will and Kate have a classic love story, quite fit for a Nancy Meyers rom-com, so it’s no surprise their proposal story and Boulder engagement photos are equally one out of an old Hollywood film! These two met as freshmen in college at the University of Maryland, and became fast friends, spending almost every free weekend together. The two obviously had chemistry – and their friends never let them hear the end of it – but other relationships, travel, careers, and life always seemed to have gotten in the way. This culminated in Kate ultimately confessing her feelings to Will, but Will being initially unwilling to sacrifice their friendship to try. Eventually, after spending a majority of a year apart while Kate studied abroad and Will traveled for his research, Will finally came to his senses, and asked Kate out in the Autumn of their senior year, this time for good. They’ve been deeply in love and inseparable ever since!

They bounced around the country for work and life for five years – starting in Maryland, then to Oregon, back to DC, finally settling in Boulder, CO this past year. As Will planned his proposal for Kate, he knew she had only a few requests: she wanted to be outside in the beautiful place they’ve chosen to live, something intimate and private, and something that completely surprised her. He enlisted the help of her friend Liv, who talked Kate into a “girl’s night” picnic at a friend’s property in the Marshall area overlooking the Flatirons and South Boulder Peak. Perfectly situated on a hillside overlooking the valley, this gorgeous private locale was filled with tall green grasses, yellow wildflowers, and absolutely stunning mountain views!

Will sweat his way through weeks of planning and logistics, meticulously checking the chances of a dreaded spring evening thunderstorm. The weather managed to stay miraculously clear, and as Kate and her friend set up the picnic, the sun started to sink towards the mountains for a perfect golden hour. Will and I camped out at a nearby Costco parking lot in Superior, awaiting the text signal from Kate’s friend that we could head over to the property and begin our hike to the top of the hill.

Once we arrived, I followed Will as he marched up and over the hilltop to find Kate, quietly taking photographs from several yards back. Kate was blissfully unaware of what was about to happen, munching away on her picnic dinner and sitting on the blanket, looking out over the mountains as the sun began to set. She turned, suddenly seeing Will walking towards her, with me trailing behind him. You could see the realization dawn on her face as he approached her, and thus began an evening between these two that they’ll never forget. Cheers to Will and Kate, and a huge congratulations to these two on their beautiful engagement and their Boulder engagement photos!
